About Me

 

My name is Shannon and a mum of 2. I chose to open a family daycare 6 years ago after working at a long daycare centre and wasn't having the opportunity to interact with every child during a day, due to the large ratio numbers. With family daycare, we are a small group of 4 children, I get to give each child enough attention every single day. 

 

I have lived in Stockton my whole life and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. I enjoy being part of the community and engage the children in the community with excursions to local parks and the library.

I am a qualified Educator with a Certificate III in Children's Services. I have 8 years experience in the childcare industry. I have experience with children with special needs and following certain care routines.

 

As an Educator I believe play-based learning is important for children to learn, using their interests as a base to this learning. All learning should be non-instrusive and never forced. I believe in a strong relationship between myself and families, creating partnerships for the children's learning.

 

I believe in creating a safe natural environment where children can explore the world with natural items and learn to take "safe" risks. I have a strong belief in creating a sustainable environment and teaching children knowledge of strategies to do this.

 

I hold a First Aid Certificate and have Asthma and Anaphylaxis training. I have attended workshops on "Programming for Babies & Toddlers", "Strategies to Promote Positive Behaviour", "Yoga for Kids", "School Readiness", “Kids and Traffic – Starting School Safely” and "Why Toddlers Do What They Do".

 

I am registered with Thrive Kids.
